What is SSL?
SSL stands for "Secure Sockets Layer". It is a protocol designed to enable applications to transmit information back and forth securely. Applications that use this protocol inherently know how to give and receive encryption keys with other applications, as well as how to encrypt and decrypt data sent between the two.
Some applications that are configured to run SSL include web browsers like Internet Explorer and Netscape, email programs like GroupWise, Outlook, and Outlook Express, SFTP (secure file transfer protocol) programs, etc. These programs are automatically able to receive SSL connections.
How can I tell that what I'm looking at is secure?
You can tell when the page you are browsing is secure by looking at two things. First you will see "https://" in front of the url instead of just "http://". Second, you should see an icon of what appears to be a lock on the top or bottom of your browser. This means that the current page you are looking at is secure. Note: You will usually only see these things when you are looking at account information, the shopping cart, checking out, or C2B.B&G Music has also provided a third way to check the security of this site, via the Digicert SSL Certificate Seal at the bottom of this page and the home page. Clicking the seal will show you that the certificate is valid and that this site is protected. If you don't see the seal or it comes back as "invalid", make sure your browser is pointed to www.bgmusicweb.com and not our IP address 188.8.131.52.
